夜は別々に眠るハービーと僕たち
来た当初から、ハービーはケージの中で寝かそうとした
ところがケージに入れてみると、嫌がってガチャガチャ鳴らしてしまい、お互いに眠ることができなかった
僕たちとしては、別々の場所で眠るスタイルを譲りたくなかった
そのためケージには入れず、部屋をふすまで仕切って空間を分けて寝ることにした
夜、電気を消してふすまを少しだけ開ける
薄暗い部屋で、ひとりとなったハービーの様子を覗いてみると
ひとりが嫌で、僕たちの気を引きたくて、部屋中を歩き回り、あちこちでオシッコをしたり、ウンチしたりする
部屋を汚せば片付けに来てくれると分かっているからだ
ハービーは足を上げてオシッコをするので、壁にかける
床にもする
ウンチをしたら、食べはじめる
僕たちはオシッコやウンチをしたタイミングで、急いで隣の部屋から飛び出て片付ける
踏みつけたり食べたりしてしまう二次被害を防ぐには致し方なかった
ハービーはちょっとでも独りになりたくないから、オシッコもウンチも一度に出し切るのではなく、回数を分ける
オシッコする、片付ける、ウンチする、片付ける、オシッコする、片付ける、ウンチする、片付ける、、、
眠るまで約1時間くらいのオシッコウンチ攻防が発生していた
ハービーはオシッコとウンチのストックを使い切ると、疲れて諦めて眠りに入る
僕たちはしばらく落ち着いて寝ることができなかった
もちろん、対応策として色々やってみた
できるだけお散歩の時にオシッコもウンチも出し切ってもらうように時間をかけた
部屋の壁をビニールで覆った
足上げしないように障害物を置いた
トイレの位置を工夫した
足上げ用にL字のトイレを買った
オムツを買った
繰り返さないように臭い消しクリーナーで必死に拭いた
思いつく限りのトイレ対策をしていた気がする
たまたまお隣さんから大きめのケージを譲ってもらって、圧迫感のない部屋も用意できた
心を鬼にして、ケージをガチャガチャするハービーの要求を無視したりもした
本当に色々試した
いまでは、夜にケージの中で眠ってくれる
ガチャガチャもほとんどしない
でもオシッコを漏らすのが完全に止まったわけではない（ウンチは止まった）
いまでも時々ケージの中でオシッコしちゃうし、フロアでもしちゃう
確実に減ってはいるが、トイレトレーニングは不完全である
そもそもハービーは、部屋でトイレができない
外でなければ上手にできないのだ
まだまだ悩むことは多い（妻が）
かなり気を使うし、手間がかかっているのは事実である（妻が）
保護犬でありシニア犬であるハービーと過ごす難しさを感じている（妻が）
僕は、何をしているのだろう
Harvey is not all cute and pretty
Harvey and us sleeping separately at night
We tried to get Harvey to sleep in his cage when he first arrived.
But when we put him in the cage, he didn't like it and made noises, so we couldn't sleep with each other.
We didn't want to give up our style of sleeping in separate places.
So we decided not to put Harvey in his cage, but to sleep in a separate room with a partition between the two.
At night, we turned off the light and opened the fusuma (a partition between the two rooms) slightly.
In the dimly lit room, we took a peek at Harvey alone.
He doesn't like to be alone, so he walks around the room, peeing and pooping all over the place to get our attention.
He knows if he messes up the room, we'll come and clean it up.
Harvey pees with his feet up, so the walls get dirty.
He also pees on the floor.
When he poops, he starts eating the poop.
We rush out of the next room to clean up when he pees or poops.
We had no choice but to do this to prevent secondary damage, such as trampling or eating.
Harvey doesn't want to be left alone for even a minute, so he pees and poops in separate batches instead of all at once.
Pee, clean up, poop, clean up, pee, clean up, poop, clean up, pee, clean up, poop, clean up...
A pee-poo attack occurred for about an hour or so until he fell asleep.
When Harvey ran out of pee and poop stock, he got tired, gave up, and went to sleep.
We couldn't calm down and go to sleep for a while.
Of course, we tried everything to deal with the situation.
We spent as much time as possible trying to get him to pee and poop when we took him for a walk.
We covered the walls of our room with plastic bags.
Putting up obstacles to prevent him from lifting his feet
Bought an L-shaped toilet for leg lifts
Bought diapers
We wiped the floor frantically with a cleaner to prevent repeated peeing.
We even ignored Harvey's requests to rattle the cage.
We really tried everything.
Now he sleeps in his cage at night.
He rarely rattles his cage.
But he has not completely stopped peeing (he has stopped pooping).
He still pees in his cage sometimes, and even on the floor.
It has definitely decreased, but potty training is incomplete.
Harvey can't go potty in room.
Harvey can only potty outside.
We（my wife ）still have a lot of trouble with him.
It is true that it takes a lot of care and effort (by my wife).
We （my wife ）feel the difficulty of spending time with Harvey, a shelter dog and a senior dog.
I think I do nothing… sorry my wife and Harvey.
